A laboratory evaluation of factors affecting rutting resistance of asphalt mixtures using wheel tracking test

چکیده
Rutting is one of the most common distresses in early damage to asphalt pavements. It can raise risk ride safety issues, accelerate pavement deterioration, and increase maintenance costs. To investigate factors that affect rutting resistance mixtures, internal (such as aggregate gradation, content, layer thickness), external (including temperature traffic loading), human compaction degree) were tested using wheel tracking tests. The test results showed mixtures be improved by designing a tightly interlocked skeleton Bailey method's primary control sieve, an optimal achieving sufficient compaction, maintaining thickness 2.5–3 times its nominal maximum size, softening point higher than temperature, avoiding overloaded vehicles. In highly rutted areas, it recommended use stone mastic with stable matrix styrene-butadiene-styrene modified highest temperature.

rutting resistance evaluation of large stone asphalt mixtures
rutting of hot mix asphalt pavements due to increased number of heavy vehicles, especially in tropical regions, causes several performance problems. large stone asphalt mixtures have more stiffness and shear resistance and so more rutting resistance compared to conventional mixtures. hence, using these mixtures in thick layers of hot mix asphalt pavements at tropical regions could be an appropr...
متن کاملAssessing rutting susceptibility of five different modified asphalts in bituminous mixtures using rheology and wheel tracking test
Rutting is one of the most important distresses in asphalt pavements due to its frequency. Rutting or channeling, could be classified in three types: 1) mechanical deformation (rutting in subgrade or base), 2) plastic flow (unstable asphalt layer), and 3) wheel path consolidation. The plastic flow of bituminous mixture depends on many factors; one of this is the type of asphalt used in the mixt...
متن کاملRutting Based Evaluation of Asphalt Mixes
Pavement rutting is one of the most common and destructive pavement distresses being observed in flexible pavements, which is primarily due to axle loads that exceed legal limit and high ambient temperatures, and also poor mix design is one of the cause of rutting. The drastic increase in traffic volume during last few decades has resulted in premature pavement failures of almost the whole road...
متن کاملEvaluation of Rutting in HMA Mixtures Using Uniaxial Repeated Creep & Wheel Tracker Tests
Over the past twenty years; road traffic (both passenger and freight) has grown significantly in Pakistan. Higher axle loads and repetitions have resulted in premature rutting of flexible pavements. Rutting, in the form of shear flow is a typical distress that mainly attributed to increased tire pressure, high temperature and heavy axle loads. Consequently, National Highway Authority (NHA), Pak...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fatigue Properties of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Reclaimed Asphalt using Response Surface Method
This paper presents the effects of different amounts of reclaimed asphalt on fatigue life of asphalt mixtures. Central composite method was used to design of experiments based on response surface method (RSM). Binder type (Pen 60/70 and Pen 85/100), reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content (25, 50 and 75%) and loading strain (150, 250 and 350 micro strain) were selected as independent variables...
